A Mom After God's Own Heart

Revisiting an old book I read @ the end of my pregnancy with Lily. It's amazing how much more of an impact it is having on me, the second time around. After all, I have two little ones now. The Author Elizabeth George shares the importance of filling the hearts of our children as well as ourselves with the Word of God throughout the day. Not only in reading, but in talking with them and sharing his love in our actions and incorporating it into our everyday tasks, just as the Hebrews did. It has been an encouragement as well as a challenge. I truly want to be the Mom my children need, the Mom God made me to be. But I can't do it alone, or in my own strength. It is only by the Grace of God, that I shall succeed.

Call Me Old Fashioned

Call me Miss Molly. or Mrs. C. But I think the prefix is very important. Why have we lost this? And why doesn't anyone say "Yes Mam" or Yes Sir" etc. I think it's important for children to respect their elders and to respect authority. Always with respect to God first. I never want my children to compromise their faith because they were obeying a ridiculous request by a bad person. But the authority I am talking about here is the kind they encounter everyday, their parents, their Sunday school teachers, pastors, dance teachers, coaches, neighbors and their friends parents. I remember being a kid and calling everyone by their proper names. I had a great respect and love for my elders. I am still learning from the "wise and well seasoned" people in my life.
I feel children today have a terrible lack of respect and appreciation for adults.
I will be 30 this year and still to this day feel awkward calling my best friend's mom by her first name. I have known her since I was in second grade. I still respect her very much.
I think names do affect how you treat people. Names are important. If it didn't matter, doctors wouldn't put MD. @ the end of their names. Or Captains or Presidents or PHD's. It doesn't mean they are better than anyone else, but they do deserve respect and kindness, for the place that God has put them. You get what I'm saying.

We all need love and respect :) I would love to hear your thoughts on this one.

Best Baby Products

A good friend of mine is expecting her first child. She asked me what baby products I thought were worth the money and what was practical, as she is starting a registry. I told her I was happy to oblige.
I can be quite opinionated so watch out. I love practicality, functionality, and simplicity. I like things that are pretty, but if they are useless and don't make my life easier or bring me some sort of joy then they are history. Remember we are talking about "things" here. haha. I live in a beautiful but small cottage. Okay it's a raised Ranch but it is beautiful and small and I can call it a cottage if I want to.
While pregnant with my first child I was overwhelmed with all the stuff/junk they say you need. Who are "They" anyways? I live far away from my mommy (we call her Gamma) so she wasn't here to tell me all this junk was silly and unnecessary. I like being prepared and wanted to be a good mommy, So I totally bought into it. Well I didn't actually buy much of anything I got gifts and hand me downs lots and lots of hand me down equipment, and thought I needed it all. I swear these baby equip manufacturers take advantage of new mommies and the people that love them. I am so glad I got rid of most of that junk. It took a while for me to realize what was a need and what was literally cramping my style.
I will start with baby bath tubs. Waste of money, eats up space. I used mine once. Then I realized you could do the same thing in the sink, or even right on a changing pad with a towel to give them a sponge bath in the beginning, you know when you aren't supposed to get their crusty belly button wet. Eeeew. *Squirm* But my favorite thing to do was bring them in the shower. Oh amazing. I would wear a tank top to help with the slippery baby. So ditch the tub. I love these, I think they are totally worth it. We got some for Lily and again for Eden. And It's one of my favorite goodies to add to my shower gifts. Great for frozen fruit while they are teething. My girls loved them.
We also made our own baby food, We just mashed up whatever we were eating for dinner and you really only need a fork to do that.
Another favorite of mine were these. They were the only way I could keep shoes on Lily or Eden's feet, or socks for that matter. These were so comfy on their little piggies. Their feet are so flexible, they weren't meant to be in rigid shoes @ such a young age. Robeez are great but crazy expensive Target had some awesome knock-offs. I even put them through the wash and layed them out to dry. And they still looked great. Or you could go with traditional moccasins. My sister got us some and they were a hit.
Changing tables, why bother, use a dresser with a changing pad on top, or use a blanket on the floor, especially good if you have a wiggler.
Now for Wipey warmers. Okay if you want to set your house on fire get a wipey warmer. I was given one as a hand me down. Now granted I can be a bit flaky, but what new mom isn't with lack of sleep etc. So I forgot to replenish the water in the wipey warmer. And soon enough the smoke alarms were going off. To the garbage it went. Also I think a cold wet wipe is only gonna make them stronger in the end. It's quite refreshing actually :) We keep some in the bathroom, for lasting freshness ;) *giggle*
I make my own disposable wipes. I also use cloth wipes, they sell expensive ones online but I just used the ridiculous little baby facecloths you get for my wipes, waste not want not right?! Then I just toss them right in the wash with the cloth diapers. I used our regular face cloths for washing up in the tub.
And lastly I am a baby wearer, and I have back problems. (Not a good mix) I've had scoliosis since I was a kid. So I do better with a Mei Tai Carrier than one of those the side slings. I know some women love them, and yes they are stylish, but lots of my friends who criticised my not so fancy but very practical "Eden Carrier" have gone out and bought themselves one after having back problems from wearing their babies lopsided in those other sling things. So there! Excuse me while I wipe the Smug Smile off my face. Wow I am in rare form tonight. I get fresh late @ night.

I love this "FreeHand Mei Tai Baby Carrier" But the basic pattern for a Mei Tai is quite simple you could make one yourself.

Well ladies in reality we are quite spoiled these days, but that can also be a burden, cause our homes get overloaded with stuff and we carry huge diaper bags full of more stuff. You can always tell a new mommy by the size of her diaper bag. lol
I like to think of what my Wise Mother says a lot. What do you think they did back in the day before they had all these contraptions. People have been raising babies for thousands of years. Or think of women in tribal communities in other countries.
I do want to hear your feedback! These are just my opinions, so don't get mad if I dissed on a product you love. I know everyones situation is different. There are lots of other products out there that I didn't mention, Let me know some of the products you couldn't live with out. Or what products you thought were a waste of space.

Moms need a Lunch Break Too!

I'm a WAHM and Not SAHM because in reality taking care of children all day is a lot of work. And it is my Job. I am so blessed to be with my girls. And I believe we all deserve a Lunch Break! However short it may be.
So Nap/Quiet time is my lunch break. When it was just Me and Lily @ home during the day, I would nap with her or take a break and read. Then after Eden came along, I found that two was more hectic and in the beginning they didn't nap @ the same time. So I didn't really get a break during the day. I was pretty wiped out chasing a toddler and nursing nonstop. Then the glorious day came when The Girls started to nap @ the same time. It was wonderful. So I used that time to tidy up the house and get some extra things done. Then Lily kind of started to grow out of Naps. If she had a nap, she wouldn't fall asleep @ bed time. So we gave her quiet time instead. I had used it as valuable time with her, we would work on some preschool without Little Eden getting into the middle of everything, or we would read together, or she would even help mommy fold laundry. But now Eden likes to join in the homeschooling and actually has more of an attention span than I had thought. She loves to color and craft with us. She sings her ABC's though you can't understand every letter. or she plays quietly while we work on stuff. So I have decided to reclaim N/Q Time for myself. Now it is My Time to be with the Lord or to read a book and sip some tea, blog, or to take a nap myself. Wow, I can't believe what even just a half an hour break can do for my brain and my mood. I have been so refreshed this week. And a lot less grumpy. Yes, I get grumpy. Who doesn't. Just thought I would share. :)

Not So Daily Devos

So I know this is terrible, but I am going to share it with you anyway. For the past few weeks I haven't been in the word very much. Our routine has been completely shot. I have been awful with keeping up with my devotionals and not reading my Bible. Shame Shame I know. And my excuse has been oh I have so much to do. How can I possibly fit reading into my hectic and crazy life. So in a sense I am saying I have no time for God, My Savior, My Creator. Yet I will stay up blogging. Wow do I have to get my priorities right. And every time I thought I had so much to do and so little time, I would have this scripture running through my brain.
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." Matthew 6:33-34
So on Monday night I decided to get to bed early so that I could get back into my routine of reading my bible and a devotional in the morning before the rest of the family wakes up. Tuesday morning comes and I wake up early, though not as early as I would like. And I think to myself, "Boy have I got a lot to do. Maybe I will skip my bible reading and squeeze in a short Devotional. " I know I know, I'm really bad, but I am being honest! So I go to the bookcase and grab the Christian's Daily Challenge by E. F. & L. Harvey. I read the Chapter for the day, and here is what it said.
April 7th
The Bible our Inheritance
"Seek ye the book of the Lord, and read." (Isa. 34:16)
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." (Matt. 24:35)
I wonder if some of us realize what a legacy and inheritance the Bible really is--God's Word to us.
It is yellow with age, and travel stained. It has come through many ages, many lands. It has come out of the world of Noah and his Ark, of Abraham and his flock, into a world their shepherd races could not dream of; but it has come inspired with such power as our world can hardly understand. It comes to us, in the stress and strain of our life to-day, like music from a far country. It is like cooling waters in a hot and thirsty land. It is like a still small voice that speaks to a troubled soul in the night and says, "be strong and of good courage."
E.F. & L. Harvey
There was more along with another poem. But I just didn't want to copy it all.

So what did you get out of that. lol
Wow. I definitely heard the voice of God telling me to READ.
After that you better believe I grabbed my Bible put aside all worries of house work etc. and started reading.
Thanks for listening :)

Cleaning and Recovering.

Yay! We are all better! And Kevin never got the "Bug". So thank you all for your prayers. The Girls and I started feeling better on friday night, although it has taken me quite a while to catch up on all the house work and laundry. Yuck that was nasty.
We all had to pile in Mommy and Daddy's bed for a few nights as Lily and Eden's bed was contaminated and smelly, and we were all running out of bed linens to boot. My floors were filthy with mud from the dog, cause I was to sick to walk her, so I just let her outside in the back yard to do her buisiness, and wiped her huge fluffy paws the best I could when she came back in the house. I had to slay a really large Laundry Monster. And to top it all off, Eden drew all over a beautiful pink apholstered chair, that Kevin had given me, when we first bought our house. And when I say all over, I am talkin' the seat the arms & the back rest were covered in scribbles, she even got the walls behind the chair, but that is a cleanup job for another day. I could have cried. My friend Shannon came to the rescue, and let me use her steam cleaner and Praise the Lord, the pen came out. I can't believe it. And Lily & Eden's Bed no longer smells like vomit. And you would never know that anyone Yarfed all over the couch down stairs.
That is seriously the messiest my house has been in a long time and I am glad it is over. So I am back and I have ton's to post about. But I just had to restore peace and order in our house & my life before posting again. I can't concentrate in a messy space.

Hippo Seat

Eden loves Lily's old hippo seat. We originally registered for this seat, while I was prego with Lily. We had camping, picnics and travel in mind. But it works great on our table @ home and eliminated the need for that Big bulky highchair that was taking up my whole kitchen. I am a big fan of purging, so that went to a new home. It really has stood the test of time. And the cover comes right off and washes in the machine quite nicely.
